OpenAI Launches Y-Combinator For AI with $100 Million

Remember sam altman was president of Y-Combinator right? well seems like he’s implementing the YC model for OpenAI. Basically YC for AI startups.

The AI lab's got a whopping $100 million fund and they've invested in a baker's dozen (that's 12 for those who are counting) of companies that are building some pretty impressive sh!t.

When OpenAI invests, you get early access to their new APIs (including GPT-4), Microsoft Azure credits and access to OpenAI researchers.

Here's the skinny on who made the cut:

1. Anysphere - It's hush-hush right now, but they're promising to create AI tools that'll make professionals say "Ooh la la!"

2. Atomic Semi - Making semiconductors faster and cheaper? Yes please!

3. Cursor - A code editor that's got AI on its side. Watch out, boring coding!

4. Diagram - Figma's getting a brainy AI upgrade, and we can't wait!

5. Harvey - The AI assistant for lawyers is here and it's about time!

6. Kick - AI for bookkeeping? Sign us up!

7. Milo - An AI assistant for parents who want to tame the chaos.

8. qqbot.dev - Copilot’s got some competition, and this AI can understand your whole code base.

9. EdgeDB - Open-source database technology that's got brains and brawn.

10. Mem Labs - A note-taking app that's driven by AI.

11. Speak - An AI language tutor that'll have you speaking English like a pro.

12. Descript - An audio/video editing platform that's got the power of AI behind it.

On the side, OpenAI funds a 5-week accelerator and gets 10% in exchange, a fair fair trade.

From this move its safe to say, OpenAI’s goal is to become a platform over building user facing apps.

ElevenLabs released a voice cloning suite earlier this month. It allows users to upload clips of someone speaking to generate an artificial voice. The Internet did its thing with it.
