Midjourney is now Paid only

Midjourney, an AI image generator, is ending its free trial due to misuse of the technology to create high-profile deepfakes, including those of Donald Trump and Pope Francis. The company's CEO, David Holz, has acknowledged the difficulty of setting content policies as the AI generates increasingly realistic imagery.

The company is hoping to improve AI moderation to screen for abuse. Some developers, such as OpenAI, have strict rules to prevent incidents, while others have looser guidelines.

OpenAI May Have to Stop New GPT Releases

The nonprofit research organization Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging that OpenAI's ChatGPT AI model is "biased, deceptive," and violates FTC guidelines. CAIDP wants the FTC to investigate OpenAI and suspend future releases of large language models until they meet the agency's guidelines.

The Center also hopes the FTC will create an incident reporting system and formal standards for AI generators. Critics of ChatGPT and similar models have warned of problematic output, including inaccurate statements, hate speech, and bias.

There's no guarantee the FTC will act on the complaint, but if it does, it could affect AI development across the industry.

Meta’s New Brand AI

So you get the gist: Basically an AI that analyzes content and decides whether a companies ad should be placed alongside the content or not.

Meta has announced new inventory filters for Facebook and Instagram feeds, which advertisers can use to ensure their ads are placed alongside suitable content. The AI-powered system, developed in collaboration with industry partners, including the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, will classify content and assign it a suitability category.

Advertisers will have three options to control monetizable content:

Expanded: Content That meets Meta’s Community Standards

Moderate: Moderately conservative approach and excludes high-risk content

Limited inventory: Ads placed beside low-risk content.

Meta has also collaborated with third-party verification solution Zefr to offer independent AI-powered reporting on the context in which ads appear on Facebook Feed. In early testing, less than 1% of content fell into the high-risk category. Meta plans to extend this verification and measurement solution later this year.
