NVIDIA HAS RELEASED A NEW MUST-HAVE CHIP FOR DEVELOPERS

Nvidia is releasing a new top chip for AI called the HGX H200. It upgrades its popular H100 chip. The new H200 has faster memory and more memory capacity. This makes it better for complex AI-like generative models. Companies want the H200 but it's unclear if Nvidia can make enough. The first H200 chips ship in the spring of 2024. Nvidia is working to provide them to cloud companies. Pricing is set by partners but will likely be expensive like the H100. The H100 chips are in high demand now for AI training. Nvidia's chips are best for processing the huge data needed for AI systems.

OPENAI SEEKS MORE FUNDING SUPPORT FROM MICROSOFT 

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the partnership with Microsoft is going well and he expects to raise more funding from them and others to support the high costs of developing more advanced AI models. Altman aims to create artificial general intelligence but said there is a long way to go and training expenses are massive. OpenAI announced developer tools and a marketplace for custom ChatGPT applications to build their enterprise business. Altman believes language models are core to achieving AGI though competitors have different strategies. Like others, OpenAI relies on scarce Nvidia chips for training but the supply should increase. 

AI ROBOT PRODUCES OXYGEN ON MARS

Researchers in China have developed an AI robot that can use meteorite samples from Mars to produce oxygen from water. This discovery could be important for sustaining future manned missions to Mars by enabling oxygen production from Martian resources. The AI robot analyzed data and simulations to design a catalyst made from meteorite samples that can split water into oxygen and hydrogen at frigid Martian temperatures. The researchers set up robotic labs in different cities in China and demonstrated the oxygen production process can be controlled remotely.
