Microsoft is phasing out its digital assistant, Cortana, as a standalone app in Windows, beginning in August 2023. This move is in line with Microsoft's shift towards newer AI technologies, such as Bing Chat, which is powered by GPT-4 through a partnership with OpenAI. This ChatGPT-based Bing experience will be integrated directly into Windows 11. Although the standalone Cortana app will no longer be supported, it will still be available in tools like Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, and Microsoft Teams rooms. Microsoft advises users to transition to alternatives like Windows 11 voice access and the AI-enhanced Bing for their productivity needs.
