Microsoft Ends Cortana AI + Google's New AI

Google StyleDrop AI

Google has developed a new method called StyleDrop for learning and recreating the style of any image. By using the Muse text-image model, StyleDrop can synthesize images in a specific style, including color schemes, shading, design patterns, and local and global effects. Only a single image is required as input.

The entire process, even with human feedback, takes less than three minutes due to StyleDrop's ability to learn fast and with only a few examples. The team claims that iterative training requires less than a dozen images.

StyleDrop outperforms other methods for style transfer from text-to-image models such as Dreambooth, LoRAs, Textual Inversion in Imagen, and Stable Diffusion.

Google envisions StyleDrop as a versatile tool that can be used by designers or companies to train with their brand assets and quickly prototype new ideas in their own style.

Microsoft Ends Cortana

Cortana walked so Windows Copilot could run.

Microsoft is ending support for Cortana in Windows as a standalone app. This move doesn't come as a surprise, as Microsoft has been gradually phasing out Cortana from the Windows experience. The company introduced the Windows Copilot tool, powered by AI, which will offer similar functionality to Cortana.

Cortana will still be available in Outlook mobile, Microsoft Teams mobile, Teams display, and Teams rooms, but its future availability is uncertain. Microsoft's focus is now on expanding its suite of AI tools, including Bing chatbot and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Japan Warns ChatGPT over Data Privacy

Japan's privacy watchdog has issued a warning to OpenAI. The watchdog told OpenAI not to collect sensitive data without individuals' permission. They emphasized the importance of minimizing the collection of sensitive data for machine learning and stated that further action may be taken if concerns persist.

Japan is the third-largest source of traffic to OpenAI's website, indicating its interest in the company's offerings. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April to explore expansion opportunities in Japan. Kishida led discussions on AI regulation at the Group of Seven (G7) leaders summit.

The European Union (EU), known for its role in tech regulation, has established a task force to address ChatGPT and is working on developing the first set of AI regulations. In the absence of specific regulations, regulators have relied on existing rules to address the proliferation of chatbots.

Altman recently assured that OpenAI has no plans to withdraw from Europe, despite previous indications suggesting otherwise if compliance with EU regulations became too challenging.
