Before we get into it, yesterday I featured “Hugging Chat” Which I said was the “first open-source alternative to ChatGPT” James a subscriber replied with a clarification (Thanks for pointing that out)
“HuggingChat is not currently open-source. The LLaMa model was kind of stolen from Meta AI. Huggingface is not even releasing the model, as can be seen on the model page, here: https://huggingface.co/OpenAssistant/oasst-sft-6-llama-30b-xor However, there are open-source models available, and I'll bet that very soon the oasst-sft-6-llama-30b model will be replaced by an actual open-source one, or that Meta AI will just change the license to open-source.”

Microsoft took the AI exam by launching a bunch of REAL AI tools people could use and on their earnings call, they shared their AI results.
1/ Microsoft’s got 2,500+ Azure OpenAI Service customers.
2/ 10,000+ tech orgs signed up for GitHub Copilot for Business.
3/ Bing has more than 100 million daily active users.
4/ Search revenue went up 10% driven by Edge and Bing’s growth.
5/ Productivity and Office Suite produced revenue of $17.9-$18.2bn, which would beat the analysts’ average target of $17.8bn.
After the call, their shares jumped 8.3%.
So by all metrics of success, we can say they came through with an A+
Meta is Working on AI Agents
Meta sees “an opportunity to introduce AI agents to billions of people in ways that will be useful and meaningful,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg told investors today.
During the company's earnings call for Q1 2023, Zuckerberg stated that Meta is exploring chat experiences, visual creation tools, ads, and eventually video and multi-modal experiences that use AI. The company previously invested billions in upgrading its data centers to support AI features.
Zuckerberg expects AI agents to be valuable for regular people, creators, and businesses. He also hinted that generative AI will be released in the coming months and will touch every product.
Youtube AI-Powered Music Ads
YouTube has introduced two AI-powered features to help brands advertise to Gen Z through music.
The first feature, Gen Z Music, uses AI to identify trending songs among Gen Z users on YouTube.
The second feature, Trending Music on Shorts, will strategically place ads within popular, music-themed Shorts videos, a TikTok-like, short-form video feature designed for mobile.
With the help of AI, YouTube aims to connect advertisers with key audiences and provide more ways for brands to tell their stories and reach the world's largest video-viewing audience.
Rock Paper Scissors Playing Giant Robot
This is one of those things you see and you’re like WTF???
A life-sized Gundam robot in Yokohama has learned how to play Rock Paper Scissors and will take part in tournaments. Gundam robots are fictional military robots featured in several anime series such as Power Rangers, Pacific Rim, and Transformers, but engineers have brought them to the real world.
On May 5th there’ll be an open tournament for anyone “brave enough” to take the robot on in Hand to Hand combat, with the prize of a commemorative photo in a closed-to-the-public portion of the facility.
personally, I love stuff like this as it's better for people to have their first real robot interactions in fun spaces, than in the wild where humans could be hostile towards them.
