I recently learned this great analogy:
Knowing what makes a great product is like a master chef, who tastes a soup and right away knows what can make it yummier.
Like that master chef, knowing a great product means you can look at something and quickly tell if people will love it.
This is important for your business because a great product taste helps you maintain very high standards.
Aside from that, it keeps you at liberty to think of new, fun ideas.
What is more? Knowing what your customers like will keep them crawling back for more.
To develop high product taste, you need to be a student of the market.
You can do this by always looking for avenues to know what your competitors are doing better, either through news, or social media.
Steve Jobs the co-founder of Apple was really a good student of the market, knowing what kinds of gadgets people would love.
He focused on solving problems in a unique way, like creating the iPod to make music more portable.
Like Steve Jobs, you can ask your customers questions, do surveys, or read their comments online to know what really excites them.
Don't just stick to your own products. Try others to know what makes them good or bad.
Do not be afraid to make mistakes, they provide the most potent lessons for success.
If something doesn’t work, figure out why so you can avoid the same mistake next time.
