A lot of you would have seen the headlines (on Twitter) saying

“Google says We Have No Moat, And Neither Does OpenAI",

It's “fake” as this wasn’t said by Google but just by an anonymous researcher from the 100s of researchers at Google.

It's more of an Opinion of one person than the opinion of Google as an org.

The core premise of the “leak” is that the engineer said Google and OpenAI have no competitive advantage and Open source models will win long-term.

They argue that the community is solving problems that the large players are still struggling with and open-source models are faster, more customizable, and more capable. Suggesting that Google should learn from and collaborate with the open-source community, prioritize enabling third-party integrations, and focus on maintaining smaller models that can be iterated upon quickly.

The researcher also argues that directly competing with open source is a losing battle and that Google should instead establish itself as a leader in the open-source community.

Finally, they suggests that OpenAI is making the same mistakes as Google in its approach to open source and that its ability to maintain an edge is necessarily in question.

Microsoft partners with AMD to work on AI Chip

Microsoft is collaborating with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on the development of new artificial intelligence processors, code-named Athena, according to anonymous sources cited by Bloomberg News.

As part of the project, several hundred employees from a silicon division at Microsoft are now working with AMD on the initiative.

The chip, when completed, will allow software developers to train models and make inferences on new data. Microsoft is also providing financial support to the project.

Meat develops AI for robots

I think we need to start taking Mark seriously in the AI and robotics space, this is crazy and I’ve not seen a lot of people covering it.

Meta recently announced two advancements in robotic AI, focused on improving sensorimotor skills in robots. These advancements aim to help robots better understand their environment and move more efficiently.

The first advancement is an artificial visual cortex, which helps robots understand and replicate human movements using a dataset of videos showing humans performing everyday tasks.

The second advancement is a new approach to robotic movement, which enables robots to adapt to changes in their environment more easily.

Meta trained the robot using a simulated environment, rather than a real-world environment so that the robot could learn without causing any damage. This approach was very successful, with the robot performing very well in a range of tasks.

Imagine the leaps in robots this could cause if we don’t need to have physical robots being trained in the real world and we can just train them virtually.

Oh did I mention it’s Open Source? so devs can implement it.
