Europe's AI Act

The European Union (EU) is drafting the AI Act, which aims to regulate artificial intelligence technology, including generative AI tools like ChatGPT. AI tools will be classified according to their risk level, from minimal to unacceptable, in this order:

Minimal Risk

Limited Risk

High Risk

Unacceptable Risk

With Higher Risk AI having to face stricter regulations.

The proposal also requires companies to disclose any copyrighted material used to develop their systems.

The proposal will now be discussed and EU lawmakers and member states will work on the final details of the bill.

Appleā€™s recent internal issues with Siri.

So we kinda have an answer on why Apple has been very slow in its AI efforts, in a report by the information, former Apple employees in the company's AI and machine learning groups felt that a lack of ambition and organizational dysfunction has led to ā€ŒSiriā€Œ's minimal improvement over time and lack of functionality.

1. Clash of Egos

2. Appleā€™s Stance on Privacy

3. Apple trying to verify the answers the AI Gives

Clash of Egos

The team working on the improvement of Siri had apparently "devolved into a mess, driven by petty turf battles between senior leaders and heated arguments over the direction of the assistant." ā€ŒSiriā€Œ's leadership did not want to invest in building tools to analyze ā€ŒSiriā€Œ's usage and engineers lacked the ability to obtain basic details such as how many people were using the virtual assistant and how often they were doing so. Which is crazy to imagine for a company like Apple.

Appleā€™s Stance on Privacy

Apple's uncompromising stance on privacy has also created challenges for enhancing ā€ŒSiriā€Œ, with the company pushing for more of the virtual assistant's functions to be performed on-device since that's what they can control while still respecting privacy. This is actually respectable

Apple trying to verify the answers the AI Gives

Apple was also trying to make sure that whatever they put out doesnā€™t hallucinate and give false responses.

In 2019, Siri engineers disagreed with the design team over how accurate answers had to be for a feature that used web material to answer questions. This explains why Siri just gives you google results when you ask it questions.

The design team wanted near-perfect accuracy before releasing the feature. The engineers argued that not every answer needed human verification and that this limitation prevented scaling up Siri to handle a large number of user questions. The design team also rejected a feature that allowed users to report concerns or issues with Siri's answers, as it wanted Siri to appear "all-knowing."

Fianlly, the 3 engineers who were pushing Siriā€™s LLM efforts have also left Apple for Google, but the report does say that the company is internally proposing LLM-based improvements to Siri.

Would really love to get your opinion on this :)

The First Babies Conceived With A Sperm-Injecting Robot Have Been Born

In a ground-breaking development, two healthy baby girls have been born using a robotic needle to inject sperm cells into eggs, according to MIT's Technology Review.

Engineers from Barcelona used a Sony PlayStation 5 controller to position the robotic needle, resulting in two healthy embryos and ultimately two baby girls, who are the first people born after fertilization by a robot.

How to: make an AI cover of any song!

  1. Go to YouTube and go to a song you want. Copy the link.

  2. Type "YouTube to MP3" in your browser. Go to a website and paste the link to make it MP3.

  3. Go to "vocalremover.org" and put in the MP3 from step 2. When it extracts the vocals, download the file of just the vocals and just the music.

  4. Go to "musicfy.lol", sign in, and put the vocal MP3 file into the program. Choose a singer you want. Then convert and download!

  5. Go to "Capcut", "Bandlab", or another video software to combine the background music with the new vocals of the new singer.
