Google vs ChatGPT, Adding AI to Everything

A new internal directive at google requires “generative artificial intelligence” to be incorporated into all of its biggest products within the coming months. The push is in response to the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which some see as a challenger to Google's traditional search engine.

Senior management issued a directive that all of its most important products—those with more than a billion users—must incorporate generative AI within months, according to Bloomberg. In an early example, the company announced in March that creators on its YouTube video platform would soon be able to use the technology to virtually swap outfits.

Also, Google is building a 1,000-language AI model

Google aims to create an AI language platform that supports the 1,000 most popular spoken languages. A significant step towards this goal is the development of the Universal Speech Model (USM), which is a family of advanced speech models trained on 12 million hours of speech and 28 billion sentences of text across 300+ languages. USM is already used by YouTube to generate closed captions on videos in 100 languages. With USM, Google hopes to create new use cases, such as AR glasses that can translate languages in real-time.

Mirror and Express owner publishes first articles written using AI

Reach, the owner of Daily Mirror and Express has published its first articles written using artificial intelligence (AI) but reassured journalists that the technology is not intended to replace them. After exploring the possibilities of AI, the company let a bot produce three articles last week on InYourArea.co.uk, a local news site. Jim Mullen, Reach's CEO, said that AI may be reliable enough to produce content in areas based on data, such as weather and traffic reports, allowing journalists to focus on other content. Mullen denied that AI was part of a "hidden agenda" to cut human staff.
