The message comes as Google launched Bard as an experiment after months of anticipation, with Alphabet shares rising almost 4% following the announcement. Pichai also said 80,000 employees contributed to testing Bard and that the company is trying to test responsibly by inviting 10,000 trusted testers from a variety of backgrounds.

Bill Gates Positive AI Rant

Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, recently published a seven-page letter called "The Age of AI has Begun," where he discussed his views on the future of artificial intelligence (AI). He expressed his belief that AI development is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, personal computer, internet, and mobile phone. Gates highlighted the potential of AI to improve global inequities in the workplace, healthcare, and education. He suggested that AI could be used as a digital personal assistant in the workforce to enhance employee productivity and take on grunt work for healthcare workers, freeing them up for patient care. In education, AI could provide content tailored to student's learning styles and assist teachers by helping plan course instruction and assessing students' comprehension of classroom topics. However, he emphasized that teachers would need to adapt to using new technologies in the classroom. Gates acknowledged concerns about AI, including the risk of misuse by humans and the possibility of superintelligent AI establishing its own goals.

BingAI Gets an Upgrade

Microsoft has launched a new tool called "Bing Image Creator" that uses AI-generated visuals to create images based on user input. The tool uses OpenAI's DALL-E to generate images based on users' descriptions, such as "an astronaut walking through a galaxy of sunflowers." The feature will be available in Bing and Microsoft Edge, with a preview release in the search engine's "Creative Mode.”

However, to prevent misuse, Microsoft has added safety measures, including controls to limit harmful or unsafe images and a modified Bing icon that clarifies the images were created using AI.

Adobe’s New AI

Adobe has launched a waitlist sign-up for Firefly, a suite of AI tools that can create images from prompts, replace sections of images, generate effects and designs to layer on top of text, generate custom vectors, brushes, and textures, and edit video and 3D models.

Unlike other AI tools, Firefly does not rely on mass images from the internet, reducing legal concerns. Designers are impressed with the suite's comprehensive offerings, while some artists remain cautious about ethics concerns with Adobe. The launch just shows Adobe's dominance in the creative industry, as only they have the kind of data to build something with these capabilities.
