Apple bans ChatGPT from employees

Apple has joined other companies like JP Morgan, Verizon, and Amazon in restricting its employees from using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. The concern stems from the fact that ChatGPT stores users' conversations, which are used to train the AI system. Apple fears that confidential information entered into these tools could be leaked or collected.

OpenAI retains all interactions between users and ChatGPT by default, which are then reviewed by moderators for adherence to the company's terms and services. Although OpenAI introduced a feature in April that allows users to turn off chat history, conversations are still retained for 30 days with the option for review before permanent deletion.

Given ChatGPT's usefulness in tasks like improving code and brainstorming ideas, Apple is rightfully concerned that its employees might enter confidential project information into the system, which could potentially be seen by OpenAI's moderators. While there is research suggesting the extraction of training data from some language models, there is no evidence of ChatGPT itself being vulnerable to such attacks.

Meta’s AI Chips

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has announced its plans to develop a custom chip called Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) specifically designed for running AI models. The MTIA chip aims to provide greater compute power and efficiency compared to CPUs, and Meta believes it will deliver better performance and decreased latency for AI workloads. However, the chip is not expected to be released until 2025.

The company also highlights its Research SuperCluster (RSC) AI Supercomputer, which they claim is one of the fastest AI supercomputers globally.

The company believes its custom chip, video transcoding ASIC, AI-optimized data centers, and powerful supercomputer will bolster its AI capabilities and support its vision of introducing AI agents to billions of people in meaningful ways.

A couple of days ago, Meta launched AI sandbox for Advertisers to generate Ads with AI, Amazon also did the same earlier this month. Yesterday we also featured Google working on its own AI for advertisers.

With all these advancements in 3 to 6 months, we’ll have Ads written and made fully with AI. AI will be selling us stuff essentially.
