Stanford and Google AI Experiment

Researchers at Stanford and Google populated a tiny virtual town with AI and it was a wholesome dystopia. The goal was to produce a "believable simulacra of human behavior.” The experiment consists of 25 agents, each prompted with similar information, playing a role of a person in the town. The agents use complex text analysis to simulate human-like behaviors, including walking, talking, interacting with others, and making decisions.

Quora’s Every AI App

Quora, known for its Q&A services, has launched a new app called Poe which allows users to try AI models like ChatGPT, GPT-4, and Claude.

Users can also create and share their own chatbots by building prompts. Quora's CEO, Adam D'Angelo, believes that creating chatbots will be difficult and wants to simplify the process.

The Pivot: Who needs humans to answer your questions when you can have every AI model under one roof, then from your app, people can build custom bots with any model (or eventually mixing multiple models) and have the smartest AI models answer all your questions.

AI-generated newsreader debuts in Kuwait

Kuwait News has introduced an AI-generated newsreader called Fedha. In a video posted on Twitter, the computerized anchor introduced herself as the first AI presenter in Kuwait.

Abdullah Boftain, the deputy editor in chief of Kuwait News and Kuwait Times, said the move is a test of AI's potential to offer "new and innovative content".

In the future, Fedha could adopt the Kuwaiti accent and present news bulletins on the site's Twitter account. According to Boftain, the presenter's blonde hair and light-colored eyes reflect the nation's diverse population of Kuwaitis and expatriates.

China’s New AI Rules

China's Cyberspace Administration has issued draft rules requiring generative AI firms to submit security assessments to authorities before launching their AI Bots to the public.

The regulator said that AI innovation and application are supported, but content generated by generative AI must be in line with the country's core socialist values. Providers will also be held responsible for the legitimacy of data used to train generative AI products and must prevent discrimination when designing algorithms and training data.

Companies that fail to comply with the rules may face fines, suspension of services, or criminal investigations.
