Germany considers banning ChatGPT

Germany may ban ChatGPT following Italy's lead due to concerns over personal information security, according to the country's data protection chief, Ulrich Kelber. The ban in Italy came after an investigation into a suspected breach of privacy rules by ChatGPT.

Kelber stated that "in principle, such action (a ChatGPT Ban) is also possible in Germany".

German regulators have been in communication with their Italian counterparts following the ban, and data privacy watchdogs in other EU nations, such as France and Ireland, have also contacted the Italian data regulator to discuss its findings.

Google Boasts about Its AI supercomputer

Google has revealed new details about the supercomputers it uses to train its AI models. The company has designed a custom chip called the Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) that is used for more than 90% of its work on AI training. Google published a scientific paper on Tuesday explaining how it has strung over 4,000 of these chips together into a supercomputer, which it claims is faster and more power-efficient than comparable systems from Nvidia.

Google said that for comparably sized systems, its chips are up to 1.7 times faster and 1.9 times more power-efficient than a system based on Nvidia's A100 chip that was on the market at the same time as the fourth-generation TPU

The Google TPU is now in its fourth generation, and Google hinted that it might be working on a new TPU that would compete with Nvidia's H100 chip (One of their most powerful).

Nvidia declined to comment.
