Elon Wants to Pause AI

An open letter signed by well-known AI researchers and figures, including Elon Musk, has called for a pause in the development of large-scale AI systems due to the "profound risks to society and humanity" they pose. The letter, published by the nonprofit Future of Life Institute, argues that AI labs are in an "out-of-control race" to develop machine learning systems that even their creators cannot understand, predict or control.

The signatories have called for a public and verifiable pause of at least six months in the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4, or a moratorium instituted by governments if a pause cannot be enacted quickly. They also propose the development and implementation of shared safety protocols for advanced AI design and development overseen by independent outside experts.

In laymans terms: AI is moving to fast lets pause it.

As expected the open letter has been met with its fair share of skepticism as people think its just a move directed at OpenAI for its competitiors to catch up to, in which one is Elon who has mentioned he’s working on creating an AI Lab.

Also China won’t definitely adhere to the pause and might give them the much needed time to catch up. (this is not my personal opinion).

In my Opinion, i don’t see this having any impact except the government steps in, which i doubt.

Google’s AI Problems

Seems like the oven is burning really hot at google right now

First off allegations from a former Google AI researcher that Google, trained Bard with ChatGPT Responses. So google would ask ChatGPT questions and just feed those responses to Bard but But Google is firmly and clearly denying the data was used: “Bard is not trained on any data from ShareGPT or ChatGPT,” spokesperson Chris Pappas.

Second off, Google and DeepMind set aside grudge to beat ChatGPT With project Gemini.

So this makes sense (Take this as the third story), a couple days ago Google ended a year long negotiations between them and DeepMind, their AI Research team, for Deepmind to become Independent. Thats the grudge aside.

Now for the Project Gemini, Obviously after such long tensions its hard to work together but not when you have one common opponent, OpenAI and Microsoft. So for the meantime Google has set aside its grudges with Deepmind (some outlets say they forced Deepmind but i highly doubt) to work together to beat OpenAI and internerlly they named it Project Gemini. Google sure des have a good naming department.

Microsoft Hacking AI

Microsoft has released a new AI tool to help cyber security professionals prevent hacks.

Called Security Copilot, it is designed to help cybersecurity professionals understand critical issues and find ways to fix them. It draws on OpenAI's GPT-4 model and a security-specific model developed by Microsoft.

The chatbot can summarise security incidents, describe exposure to an active vulnerability, or specify the accounts involved in an exploit in response to a text prompt. Security Copilot will work with Microsoft security products, and Microsoft will determine whether to add support for third-party tools based on input from early users in the next few months.

It will be available to a small set of Microsoft clients in a private preview before a wider release at a later date.

The UK Government Opens Up to AI Education

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan will address the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in education in a speech at the Bett show in London. Keegan will call on the education and technology sector to work together to maximise AI's potential and manage risks, while highlighting the technology's ability to transform teachers' day-to-day work.

The Department for Education will also release a statement outlining the opportunities and risks of AI in education. The department will provide further support to ensure schools have a safe, secure, and reliable foundation in place before they can consider using more powerful technology. The support includes new digital and technology standards and a digital service to help senior leaders with their technology planning.

The service will be piloted in partnership with schools in Blackpool and Portsmouth in September 2023 before being rolled out across the country.
