Elon Musk revealed details about his new AI company yesterday, via a newly launched website. The firm called xAI aims to "understand the true nature of the universe" and includes notable team members from AI powerhouses like OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and DeepMind. xAI plans to hold a Twitter Spaces discussion on July 14th for people to ask questions.

The xAI website notes it will operate separately from Musk's predominant X Corp but will maintain close ties with Twitter, Tesla, and other entities. Musk previously founded OpenAI but left in 2018 to avoid conflicts of interest with Tesla. This news follows previous reports about xAI's formation, with Musk serving as director and Jared Birchall, director of Musk's family office, as its secretary.

   GOOGLE LAUNCHES A NOTE-TAKING TOOL 

Google has rebranded its AI-powered note-taking tool previously called Project Tailwind, to NotebookLM and launched it to a select group of users in the US. Primarily only compatible with Google Docs at present, the application allows users to select documents and use NotebookLM to ask questions or generate new content based on them. It could automatically summarize long documents or create scripts from video outlines.

NotebookLM also includes citation features to aid quick fact-checking, although Google warns that the tool may occasionally make errors and its accuracy depends on the correctness of the input information. However, regarding data privacy, Google asserts that NotebookLM only has access to documents chosen by the user, and this data isn't available to others or used to train new AI models.
