GitHub has announced an upgrade to its AI pair programmer, Copilot, with the integration of OpenAI's GPT-4 model, bringing chat and voice support to the system. The new chat functionality will be a closer-to-true coding assistant that can recognize and explain code, recommend changes, and fix bugs. Copilot will now have a full view of the integrated development environment (IDE), allowing it to analyze code for security vulnerabilities and assist with code rewriting or adding useful comments.

The system can be accessed by voice commands and will even suggest AI-generated descriptions for pull requests. The upgraded system will initially be available in Microsoft's Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code apps during technical preview, but GitHub plans to expand it to other IDEs in the future.

GitHub Copilot has already played a significant role in improving developer productivity, helping developers code up to 55% faster.

Microsofts Research Team believes GPT-4 is an early signal of AGI.

Opera Launches AI Web Browser

Opera has integrated generative AI chatbots, ChatGPT and ChatSonic, into its desktop browsers, Opera and Opera GX. Additionally, the browser maker has launched a feature called "smart AI prompts" which allows users to generate AI prompts by highlighting text on a website or typing it in. Users can use the chatbots for summarising articles or web pages, writing social media posts, or helping them ideate through prompts. These chatbots are available in early access across all desktop platforms, with more AI-powered features set to launch in the future. Opera's plan is to launch the features of the second stage, which will be based on its own GPT-based browser AI engine.
