Mcdonald's Hires AI Robot

Are you lovin' the AI-powered drive-thru ordering system at McDonald's? Well, if social media is any indication, the answer is a resounding "no." Videos on TikTok are showing just how much the automation is failing to take fast food orders accurately, and how even humans are struggling to deal with it. The fast food giant started testing the AI drive-thru as early as June 2021, with 10 locations in Chicago implementing the technology. However, despite the company's claims of an 85% order accuracy, the system's performance has been underwhelming, with some reports suggesting accuracy levels as low as the low-80s.

McDonald's is not alone in trying to automate the drive-thru experience with AI. Other fast food chains, including Panera, Popeyes, Checkers, and Wendy's, have also experimented with voice recognition AI. Let's hope they have better luck than McDonald's.

AI Flies Fighter Jet for 17 Hours

DARPA has for the first time used AI algorithms to automatically control a real F-16 fighter jet mid-flight. The aircraft flown in the experiment, dubbed X-62A or VISTA, was modified and equipped with the right hardware components to run the software developed under the Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program run by the US Dept of Defense’s science nerve-center DARPA.

There are quite a lot of technical details that go into this but the main gist you need to know is that an AI algorithm was used to fly a military aircraft, as the Military envisions machine-learning algorithms assisting pilots with flying and performing tactical maneuvers, with our humans focusing on battle commands, strategy, and firing weapons.

The First AI Lawyer Has been Hired

Allen & Overy is introducing an artificial intelligence chatbot to help its lawyers draft contracts. The London-based group told the Financial Times it had rolled out a chatbot named Harvey after testing it since November for use in tasks such as drafting merger & acquisition documents or memos to clients. Harvey was built using the underlying GPT technology created by OpenAI. Allen & Overy said it had not yet informed clients of the tool, which is now available to any lawyer at the firm and around 3,500 individuals in total.
