100,000+ ChatGPT Accounts Data Leaked

In a concerning development, it has been revealed that over 100,000 OpenAI ChatGPT account credentials were compromised and sold on dark web marketplaces between June 2022 and May 2023. Info stealers like Raccoon, Vidar, and RedLine were primarily responsible for these breaches.

The Asia-Pacific region was the most targeted, with nearly 41,000 compromised accounts, followed by Europe with around 17,000. Information stealers are a type of malware that specifically targets account data stored in various applications, including web browsers and email clients. They extract credentials and other stolen data and send them back to the attackers' servers. ChatGPT accounts, alongside email accounts, credit card data, and cryptocurrency wallet information, have become attractive targets due to the valuable information they may contain, such as proprietary business data and sensitive communications.

Enterprises integrating ChatGPT into their operations are particularly vulnerable to these breaches. The number of stolen ChatGPT logs has been steadily increasing, with the majority coming from the Raccoon stealer. To mitigate risks, users are advised to disable the chat saving feature or delete conversations after use. However, information stealers may still capture data through screenshots or keylogging.
